Senior Java Developer – Public Transport Sector
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Work Model: Hybrid (2–3 days per week on-site)
Languages: English – C1 level (spoken & written)
Eligibility: Minimum 3 years of experience in a public transport context
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Advisor to provide guidance on Java development, microservices architecture, cloud-native design, and system integrations. You will support architectural decisions, lead rapid prototyping, and collaborate with stakeholders in a public transport environment
Skills & Technical Expertise:
- Minimum 10 years as a Java developer.
- Strong Core Java expertise: OOP, collections, streams, exception handling.
- Experienced using Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring ecosystem).
- Proficiency with JPA/Hibernate, Maven or Gradle, and testing frameworks.
- Minimum 8 years working with microservices architecture.
- Experience designing scalable, resilient distributed systems and cloud-native solutions.
- Skilled in creating clean, reusable, standards-compliant REST APIs with security best practices.
- Minimum 5 years integrating SaaS solutions.
- Ability to lead fast prototyping of business-critical ideas/products.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership - Provide expert guidance on Java development best practices, microservices architecture, and cloud-native design patterns.
- Architecture & System Design - Design high-performance, resilient distributed systems and ensure architectural coherence across multiple business domains.
- API Strategy & Integration - Define and implement clean, reusable REST APIs, enforcing security and industry standards.
- Prototyping - Lead rapid prototyping of new business-critical functionalities, ensuring feasibility, scalability, and alignment with organizational needs.
- Review & Quality Control - Conduct technical evaluations, code reviews, and provide advisory support to development teams.
- Integration Expertise - Oversee integration with SaaS platforms and third-party solutions, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration - Work closely with product teams, architects, and operational stakeholders in the public transport sector to align technology with business goals.
